Re-elect Eileen Robinson to the Chico Unified School Board
My History and Love of Chico Unified School District
When my oldest daughter started kindergarten, I volunteered in her classroom. When daughter number two started school, I became a parent classroom aide in a first-grade class and a reading coach for 5th and 6th-graders reading at least three grades below their grade level. I was committed to helping all kids succeed in school.
My daughters and grandchildren have attended Chapman Elementary, Parkview, J. Partridge, Marigold, Bidwell Junior High School, Fair View, and Pleasant Valley High School. All schools were loved and are still near and dear to my parent heart. We were lucky to be able to benefit from the Innovative Preschool, Advanced Placement (AP) / International Baccalaureate (IB), and the accelerated learning at Fair View. From my own family experience, I know Chico Unified has a school and program to meet your family’s needs.
I retired after 30 years in various roles in the Chico Unified School District, from attendance clerk to summer school registrar. After eight years of retirement, I wanted to serve the students and school employees of Chico Unified in a new role. In 2010 I was elected to the Chico Unified School Board. In my time on the School Board, I have seen the district recover from budget cuts of the recession, the passage of the Facilities Master Plan, and the bond to fund phases 1-4 of that plan. I am not done. There is much to do to support our students, staff, and community as they work to recover from the social, emotional, and academic impacts of the Camp Fire and the COVID-19 pandemic.
I have the depth of experience necessary to guide us through these next four years. I am excited to see our Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) fully implemented and our students once again thriving as they move forward in life.
Goals for 2022 – 2026
If elected to a fourth term, I will continue:
- to support my priorities to fund student social and emotional support services fully,
- to support the hiring of more para educators,
- prioritize academic recovery and advancement,
- to support the expansion of Transitional Kindergarten to all Elementary Schools,
- to support our expansion of Career Technical Education (CTE), and
- as a member of the Facilities Committee.
Parents as Partners
It’s an established fact that students with positive parental support for doing well in school do just that. In California the State Department of Education publishes the Content Standards for grades K-12th. Any parent can go on line and see what teachers must use to build their curriculum. The curriculum
approved by the Chico Board of Education is available online once approved by the board. Whether supporting from home or as a classroom volunteer parents have full access to what is taught in Chico Unified.
Focus on Academics
In August 2021, Chico High School implemented the block schedule program, followed by Pleasant Valley High School in August 2022. The block schedule program allows students to pursue the required courses for A-G college entrance requirements and add additional electives, such as courses to complete a Career Technical Education (CTE), Band, Art, and other creative classes. As a Board Member, I understand the value to the students. However, the block schedule program requires continued agreement with the teachers and a significant financial commitment by the board. Therefore, it will continue to have my yes vote if re-elected to the School Board.
